“Mizz in the Toy Store” is part of Dhu Stories, a series by Dhani Barragán in which the artist uses anthropomorphic characters to project his perspective on contemporary visual culture. Surrounded by recognizable pop icons, the scene becomes a reflection on desire, consumption, and the identity shaped from childhood.
The work also connects with Deconstructed Pop, the artist’s other major body of work, where popular icons appear worn out and torn open by use and excess consumption. In Dhu Stories, that same tension shifts toward a more narrative and psychological dimension. The universe of the series began to take shape in the Forever Toys exhibition in 2018, with the work “The Toy Maker,” reinforcing the place of this piece within an already established and recognizable imaginary in Dhani Barragán’s trajectory.
Dhani Barragán (Seville, 1989) develops a visual language in which Neo Pop, graphic surrealism, and popular iconography coexist, turning seemingly light images into scenes of greater emotional density. His works are part of private collections across Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
