Classic and contemporary cartoons, anime, cereal-box characters, kaiju, Art Toys and references to alternative rock collide in an artwork that issues a warning: “Don’t Live Without Toys.”

In this piece, references overlap, interrupt one another and compete to capture your attention. Judas Arrieta does with painting what "Sonic Youth" did with rock: disrupt harmony, introduce noise and transform dissonance into a distinctive and instantly recognisable language, in which Western Pop Art playfully merges with the imagery of Asian popular culture.

That is Judas Arrieta: the reflection of a generation whose identity was shaped by anime, comics, video games and all those worlds that many once dismissed as mere entertainment, but which ultimately became culture.
