The “Astonished” collection is part of “Deconstructed Pop”, a line started by Dhani Barragán in 2019, where pop icons appear opened, distorted, and with visible stuffing, like plush figures worn down by years of visual consumption.

But here, there is another layer.
In “Astonished”, the characters are not only deconstructed. They also look surprised, tense, almost at the limit. Their expressions build a kind of “face of absolute chaos”: a familiar image pushed into a stranger, more graphic, and more expressive territory.

You recognize the character, yes. But you no longer see it intact.
Dhani turns it into an open, stitched, inflated, and worn figure. A pop image that begins to reveal what usually remains hidden beneath the surface of entertainment.

Dhani Barragán — Seville, 1989 — works between pop surrealism, lowbrow art, Neo Pop, and contemporary iconography. His work takes recognizable characters from popular culture and moves them into his own visual language, where humor, distortion, visual tension, and a highly personal gaze coexist.
