A character associated with wealth and greed appears devouring sweet, shiny money with no real value: chocolate coins. He consumes the caricature of what defines him. And he does it from a bowl that recalls another great symbol of power and ambition within popular culture. We are watching greed feeding on itself.

That is why this work fits within “Deconstructed Pop”, the iconic series by Dhani Barragán. Not only because of the open seams, the visible stuffing, or the wear caused by years of visual consumption, but because here the icon participates in its own deconstruction.

The character has not only been consumed by us for decades. He also consumes the most ironic version of his own myth.
