Drawing by Celipe Perroloco "We didn´t start the fire"
$300.00
Description
This original work by Célipe Perroloco is created on a recycled magazine page. On the reverse side, there is a bucolic image of children flying kites: a scene associated with play, childhood and innocence.
But on the side intervened by Célipe, that calm is broken.
The characters hold torches while seeming to deny any responsibility for the fire burning behind them.
The piece can be read as a social critique of the fragility of civilization and collective morality. It suggests that ethical limits are not as solid as we like to believe: when the individual hides behind the complicity of the group, human beings can bring their most savage and destructive side to the surface
Through painting, illustration and design, Celipe transforms humble materials —paper, cardboard, recycled supports— into pieces with an intense, strange identity, full of strength and expressiveness.
