You recognize the character, yes. But you no longer see it intact.

This drawing belongs to Dhani Barragán’s “Deconstructed Pop” universe, a line where pop icons appear opened, distorted, and with visible stuffing, like plush figures worn down by years of visual consumption.

But here, there is another layer. The character appears surprised, tense, almost at the limit. Its expression builds a kind of “face of absolute chaos”: a familiar image taken into a stranger, more graphic, and more expressive territory.

And why? Because in Dhani’s work, the pop character stops functioning as a clean, closed, and perfectly recognizable image, and what seemed to be an entertainment icon begins to reveal something else: the tension that appears when an image has been seen, repeated, and consumed for years.
